Still experimenting!

This week I have chosen to try out a few things to see if I can improve the finer details. I will make another dog from scratch after I have worked out the best way to go with this practice dog.

I like the effect of clay pads on the underside of the foot. When I tried using dark needle felted pads on a dark wool foot they just didn’t show enough. The Matt smooth texture of the clay makes a big difference. I do however think the shape needs adjusting.

Duller wool is fine for skin, but the wavy unstructured curls that you see here being needle felted down from the thigh, do need a bit of Sheen, so I mixed the dull, easy felting, short fibre wool, with a similar coloured finer shinier merino. Mixing both types of wool makes it easier to needle felt and gives the look of a healthy coat.
